Pan's Labyrinth Scene 3 Summary

  • They make it to the Captain, who's a bit upset with their tardiness but greets his wife warmly.
  • Ofelia goes to shake his hand but he firmly grasps it instead, telling her it's the other hand she's supposed to offer.
  • Then she sees the fairy bug thing that followed them to the estate. She tries to catch it but it flies off and into an old labyrinth (the music becomes heightened, so we get a feeling these mysterious old walls are important).
  • Mercedes, who appears to be a housekeeper of sorts, comes and tells Ofelia about the labyrinth.
  • As they walk back Ofelia insists that the Captain is not her father. Her father was a tailor that died in the war.
  • She tells Mercedes she thinks her mother is beautiful, but that she's sick with the baby.
  • The insect sits on the labyrinth entrance, watching Ofelia walk away.
