Exactly how steamy is this story?

There are a few mentions of sex at the beginning of the book when the narrator is describing people in Oran, but nothing too racy (he uses words like "affair" or "passion." Yawn.) In general, the people in Oran seem more interested in making profits than having sex. All in all, this book is pretty tame.
Yet, we’d bet good money that Rambert has reasons other than love for getting back to that hottie in Paris who, by the way, isn’t so much his wife as his "wife" (they're not really married). And of course, when you’ve got a town ridden with plague and 200,000 people who think they might not live to see tomorrow, a "life is short" mantra crops up.
