The Princess Bride Scenes 51-55 Summary

Scene 51

  • With Fezzik dressed in the cloak and standing on the wheelbarrow (to appear even taller than he actually is), Inigo pushes him toward the gate.
  • Fezzik tells the castle guards he's the Dread Pirate Roberts, and claims there will be "no survivors." Seems legit.
  • Inigo then lights Fezzik on fire. It's an impressive and terrifying display, but we have to wonder how Fezzik is supposed to survive it.
  • Oh. So that's what a holocaust cloak is for.
  • Humperdinck's guards scatter, and the boys procure the gate key from Yellin, who isn't keen to have his arms torn off.

Scene 52

  • The wedding ceremony concludes, and Buttercup can't believe Westley never came to carry her off into the sunset (although, to be fair, it's a little dark for that).

Scene 53

  • Wandering the halls of the castle, Inigo, Fezzik and Westley run into Count Rugen and four of his men.
  • Inigo slices and dices up the four guys in a matter of seconds, which prompts Rugen to make the courageous decision to run for his sorry life.
  • Inigo chases after him, but runs into a locked door that he needs Fezzik's help opening. Fezzik, hearing Inigo's cries, props Westley up against a suit of armor, comes to Inigo's aid, and knocks down the door.

Scene 54

  • As the kindly king (guess that skipped a generation?) walks Buttercup to the honeymoon suite, she confides in him that she's going to kill herself as soon as they reach the room. It sorta goes over his head, but whatever.

Scene 55

  • Fezzik returns to the spot where he had propped Westley up, only to find him missing. Okay, big guy—retrace your steps. Where was the last place you had him?
