Nina Harrison Timeline and Summary

  • On her way to a Tuesday night vampire support group meeting, Nina goes with her fellow vamps to check on one member, Casimir, who isn't responding to his doorbell. They find him staked, a.k.a. truly dead.
  • While trying to decide how to keep everyone safe, Nina proposes that they all hide out at her (mortal) mother's house. So that's where they all head next.
  • In an attempt to track down Casimir's killer, Nina volunteers to go with Father Ramon and Dave on a road trip to the outback. It's exciting, but also scary for Nina to leave Sydney for the first time in decades.
  • On the trip, they find their way to the property of the buyer of the silver bullet found at the murder site. But Barry and Dermid McKinnon are running an illegal werewolf fighting ring, and they imprison Nina, Dave, and Father Ramon.
  • On the plus side, Nina's exposed to fresh blood and doesn't lose her mind and go feral—she's now been blooded, which is a major milestone for her.
  • Nina blacks out at dawn, and wakes up in the back of the truck they drove out to Cobar. Dave is with her, and they climb out of the car, confused.
  • With the McKinnons away, Nina and Dave unlock Father Ramon and Reuben, the surviving werewolf from the previous night's fight; they frantically drive back to Sydney.
  • Nina blacks out before they make it to the city, and she comes to the next evening, in Father Ramon's garage. She and Dave go inside, only to find Father Ramon and a stranger unconscious, with a gas vent on.
  • They get Father Ramon and the stranger back to Nina's mom's place, and Nina is joyfully reunited with her mom. Nina gets cleaned up and fed, and everyone discusses what to do next.
  • Nina wants to go find Reuben, since the McKinnons kidnapped him during the daytime and are going to sell him to some American dude. But everyone else shoots her down.
  • When Nina feels sick after that conversation, Horace comes to her and proposes that they go rescue Reuben on their own. She agrees against her better judgment.
  • Nina and Horace take a cab to Nefley's place, where the McKinnons are holed up with Reuben. Luckily for their lack of cab fare, Dave follows them.
  • The three of them investigate the house, hoping to take advantage of Nina's awesome night vision. This plan doesn't work out, though, and Horace bites Dermid, while Barry is knocked out and Reuben is freed.
  • Nina feels guilty about her role in Dermid getting bitten, since she turned her back on Horace and Dermid, but at least she helped rescue Reuben (who's very grateful). Everyone meets back up at Nina's mom's place to try to sort out the mess.
  • During the day when Nina is asleep, Barry gets free and tries to rescue Dermid, who bites him. Dermid takes off and takes Nefley hostage, then comes back to try to free his dad.
  • Nina wakes up just in time to try to defuse a tense situation with Dermid (who has a gun), Nefley, Barry, Reuben, and some of the vamps.
  • She tries to talk to Dermid, who's delirious from the transformation, and she kind of talks some sense into him. The vamps gain control of Dermid and the gun, and Dave (finally) kisses Nina.
  • In the next year, Nina decides to ditch fiction writing and instead write an account of her actual life and adventures (with identifying details changed). She seems to have finally come to terms with her life as a vampire, so yay.
