Book of Revelation Awe and Amazement Quotes

How we cite our quotes: (Chapter:Verse)

Quote #4

Everyone, slave and free, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?" (NRSV 6:15-17)

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? (KJV 6:15-17)

Again with the falling down. God really gives people vertigo. Even those who don't believe in the Christian God are completely awe-struck out by the idea of his coming… and not really looking forward to his vengeance.

Quote #5

Then the twenty-four elders who sit on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God, singing, "We give you thanks, Lord God Almighty, who are and who were, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign." (NRSV 11:16-17)

And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O LORD God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. (KJV 11:16-17

Now the heavenly council of elders have gone weak in the knees. Even though they're in the presence of God all day and all night, they still can't help falling down and thanking the Big Guy for all that he is and all that he's about to do (like turning some rivers to blood).

Quote #6

They worshiped the Dragon, for he had given his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast, and who can fight against it?" (Revelation 13:4, NRSV)

And they worshipped the Dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? (Revelation 13:4, KJV)

Okay, so the Sea Beast gets a little reverence here. He's got the Dragon backing him and he's pretty impressive otherwise, so it's no surprise that the people of the world are falling for his charms. Seven heads will do that to you. The last question, though, almost leads into a response. Who can fight against the Beast? God, of course (and all the armies of Heaven.
