Taxi Driver Scene 10 Summary

  • At a Palantine rally, Palantine mounts the stage and speaks. Travis gets out of his taxi and stands at the back of the crowd, listening, sporting a Mohawk. Tom and Betsy are there but don't notice him.
  • As Palantine leaves, Travis follows him. He prepares to draw a gun, but the Secret Service notices how suspicious he looks and moves to catch him. Travis runs, escaping successfully, but with no assassination.
  • We see Sport paying money to a mobster outside the hotel. Later at night, Travis pulls up and approaches Sport at the same place. Travis menaces Sport, asking him about Iris and about being a pimp. Sport tells him to leave and flicks a cigarette at him.
  • Travis draws a gun and shoots Sport in the stomach.
  • Inside, the hotel clerk walks up to Travis and Travis blows his fingers on one hand off. Sport comes in from behind and shoots Travis in the neck. Travis is hurt, but he shoots Sport and then shoots him again and again, making sure he's dead.
  • The mobster john visiting Iris comes out of the room and shoots Travis—not fatally though. Travis blasts him a few times and kills him.
  • The hotel clerk attacks Travis and Travis stabs him through the hand. Then, despite Iris' pleas, Travis blows the clerks brains out.
  • He tries to kill himself but he's out of ammo. He sits on the couch, covered in blood.
  • As the cops arrive, Travis acts crazy and pretends to shoot himself in the head with his own fingers. They stand staring at him.
  • The camera tracks over the path of Travis' destruction, following the trail of blood and bodies (three dead) out of the room, over the cops' heads, and down the hall and stairs, finally arriving outside, where a crowd has gathered and more cops are arriving.
