Taxi Driver Scene 7 Summary

  • Travis discusses his increasingly violent fantasies on the voiceover—committing some major act of violence—while looking in the mirror and drawing his guns.
  • In his room, he constructs a device that lets a gun shoot out of his sleeve, and practices taping a knife to his boot and then drawing it.
  • At a Palantine rally, Betsy and Tom are helping set up. Travis arrives and walks around, chatting with a Secret Service man.
  • He expresses interest in joining the Secret Service, mentioning his military record, but he gives the Secret Service agent a fake address to send the info. He accidentally adds another digit to his zip code (six digits instead of five) but says he was thinking of his phone number.
  • Travis leaves as Palantine arrives and people crowd around.
  • Back in his room, Travis practices drawing his gun and talking to himself in the mirror. He keeps asking the question, "You talkin' to me?" to an imaginary enemy.
  • On the voiceover, we see Travis rehearsing an angry message about how he's not going to take it anymore, and is going to stand up against the "scum" of NYC.
