Character Analysis
Tom is a worker on Palantine's campaign who likes to joke around with Betsy, a little flirtatiously. When Betsy sees Travis staring at her from his cab, Tom goes to tell him to drive away.
Also, when Travis goes to the campaign headquarters to yell at Betsy for rejecting him, Tom tries to convince him to leave—leading Travis to drop into a fighting stance. Fortunately, nothing happens, and the tension diffuses when Travis finally does leave.
