Billy Merrit

Character Analysis

A preteen boy also in the eye ward of the hospital. He was blinded in the car accident that killed his mother. His father was driving the car, although the accident wasn’t his fault, and is still alive. Billy is in the hospital getting an operation, which has the potential to restore his vision but doesn’t. Like Mr. Savo, Billy is a completely two-dimensional character. He's essentially only in the story to help Reuven learn how precious his own eyes are, and maybe to show us that Reuven is capable of empathy.
