The Future

If we wanted to be really, um, antagonistic, we could say that Facebook is the antagonist in this book—after all, when it comes into Emma's and Josh's lives, things get majorly wonky. But since what Facebook shows our two protagonists is their futures—and this is what they both get super hung up on—we're instead saying that the future is the antagonist in this book. It's the element that introduces chaos and distracts Emma and Josh from living in the present—and only once it's gone (thanks to some Facebook account deleting in the future) can Emma and Josh live in peace.
