The Scorch Trials Chapter 8 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • At this point, Thomas doesn't want to argue anymore. He's too tired of arguing.
  • But Winston points out that the Cranks, those crazy people who would scream "Kill Me," had stopped yelling.
  • Well, it turns out that the windows were shut, and brick walls had been erected just outside the iron bars. So even if the Cranks were screaming, the kids wouldn't be able to hear them.
  • Also, the dorm room the kids slept in has been stocked with all new clothing (new watches, too).
  • The room with Teresa's label has been replaced with a label for Aris, whose last name is apparently Jones.
  • Thomas starts worrying about Teresa again (as he always does) and yells to her telepathically.
  • This time, she responds. But she isn't too happy.
  • Teresa's response is something along the lines of Yo, kid. I don't know who you are, but get out of my shuck head. Leave me alone, or I'll slit your throat.
  • Then the voice is gone. Gee whiz, what a gal.
  • Thomas is pretty overwhelmed, so he decides to take a nap—seriously, he falls asleep so much.
  • Thomas dreams again, this time about when was 7 or 8 years old.
  • People in green suits and glasses are poking at Thomas, talking about cutting into his brain. They talk about cutting deeper into his brain—and they the same about some girl's brain. We can maybe guess they mean Teresa.
  • One person says the Flare is rooted inside of Thomas. Hmm.
  • Another person is afraid the cutting might kill Thomas; the other person is afraid he might survive. Huh, sounds like these people have no idea what they want.
  • Then one person says something like Hey, maybe he and the others will save everyone. So that's good, at least. We guess?
