Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories The Big Brag, Lines 105 – 113 Summary

They So Had It Coming

  • The world is spinning faster and faster as the worm looks 'round and 'round. The words are going faster, too, spinning across one rhyme after the next, building tension and urgency with those italics, until… until…
  • The worm has seen right back to where he's standing now.
  • And what does he see? The "two biggest fools" he's ever seen. Fools who seem to "have nothing else better to do / Than sit here and argue who's better than who!"
  • We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
  • Then, without waiting for a response from the rabbit or the bear (because the point is, after all, not needing to care) he dives back into his hole and gets back to the important stuff: work. Presumably, the type of work that will satisfy him internally in a way the approval or awe of others never will.
  • And the rabbit and the bear? What do they do? They just stand there, shocked, having been bested by a measly old worm.
  • Justice, that's what is. Justice at the hands of a worm.
