Common Core

Whether you idolize the Common Core or want to burn it to the ground, Shmoop's got your back. If you share the love, we'll help you understand it better; if you don't, don't sweat it. We're here for you either way.

Here are just a few ways we help you navigate the Common Core.

1. Figure out what those words even mean.

We've translated all the Common Core Standards into human English. You can search or browse all of the Standards right on Shmoop, and we'll tell you what phrases like complex account and editing for conventions actually mean.

Oh, and we've got 'em in Spanish, too. De nada.

2. Get sample assignments.

For the more popular Standards (they're just really nice to all the other Standards), we provide sample assignments to show you what the Standard might look like in action.

3. Find aligned resources.

Ready to actually teach the Standard? We're on it. Click on the Teach With Shmoop and Aligned Videos tabs to find Teaching Guides and Videos to help you hit the Standard without starting from scratch.

4. Know that you're in good hands.

All of our Online Courses and Teaching Guides are aligned to the Common Core, so you'll know exactly which Standards are being met in each activity. Our Core Math and ELA Courses cover every Standard, too, so you won't have to be filling any gaps along the way. And if you're a Math teacher, you can send students to use Math Shack and master Standards ad infinitum. Literally.
