- 00:11
the liberal arts schools what that term means liberal arts
- 00:15
So a lot of times people think liberal arts means
- 00:18

- 00:21
are a lot of liberal arts colleges there also a

little bit more on the conservative side but generally speaking
- 00:26
liberal arts means it's a small college and they only
- 00:29
focus on kind of the social sciences humanities some of
- 00:33
the stem fields they have math and they have biology
- 00:35
What they don't offer is what the bigger public research
- 00:39
universities dio like a school of mass communications or a
- 00:43
school of public health or nursing so they kind of
- 00:45
concentrate on maybe forty or fifty or sixty Kind of
- 00:48
small core majors can give us some examples of liberal
- 00:51
arts schools Um oh yeah liberal arts schools a lot
- 00:54
of the nest cack schools in new england like tufts
- 00:56
and middlebury Connecticut college I'm wesleyan there's skidmore in northwest
- 01:02
You have whitman in california there's pomona and claremont And
- 01:05
scripts You got grinnell carlton in the midwest in the
- 01:09
south You have rollins and roads and they're just they're
- 01:12
all over the country What Are the benefits of getting
- 01:16
a liberal arts education versus kind of one of these
- 01:19
broader educations where you could study like you said mass
- 01:21
communications I think actually a lot of employers are saying
- 01:24
that they don't actually care what you made your in
- 01:27
What they're caring about is how you study how you
- 01:30
think are you able to reason and you have good
- 01:33
critical thinking skills Do you have good writing skills And
- 01:36
no matter what you major in at a liberal arts
- 01:38
college the goal of that liberal arts colleges to make
- 01:40
you strong and all of those things Whereas sometimes they
- 01:43
fruit a bigger university that you don't have maybe quite
- 01:46
a cz much attention from a professor we might not
- 01:49
come out with a lot of those skills or he
- 01:50
might be even too focused on one thing and then
- 01:53
the problem is what if you studied for that one
- 01:55
thing and that was your focus that was your major
- 01:58
and then five or ten years after you graduate that
- 02:00
career is going away So a lot of the liberal
- 02:03
arts colleges do a great job preparing you for early 00:02:05.998 --> [endTime] wide range of careers Shmoop no
