Auburn University

Hallmarks and Quirks

Things I'm Good At:

  • Football. I'm not exaggerating, either—I hold five NCAA records. Boom.

  • Parties. My college experience is all about excellence, and as far as I'm concerned, that includes excellence in having a good time. As all the rappers who've come to my fraternities will tell you, I know how to party.

  • Being a nerd. I play hard...I party hard...and I study hard. I pretty much have to since I offer up more than 140 majors for students to choose from.

My Top 5 Must-Haves:

  1. An appetite. Auburn knows what's up when it comes to food, so come hungry and get ready to structure your day around eating.

  2. A book shelf. I plan to give you all the knowledge you want, and my students study hard—get ready to hit the books.

  3. Season tickets to see the one and only Auburn football team play. Go Tigers.

  4. Lots of orange and blue. These are my colors and everyone here gets super decked out for big games.

  5. Craft supplies. Without these, how will you help make the best float ever for the Annual Beat Bama Parade?

Why You Might Have Heard of Me:

  • My boys won the national championship in football a couple of times.

  • My hometown is, er, home to one of the world's most famous lemonade stores.

  • A rival school poisoned my favorite trees. Yes, really. Don't worry, though; my bark-covered friends have been revived.

On a regular Saturday night, you can find me...

I love dancing and hanging out with friends, so chances are good that if I'm not at a party on campus, I might be at Sky Bar. If I'm feeling quieter, though, I'm probably watching a movie in one of the local theaters. Everyone needs a change of scenery now and then, so when the travel bug bites, I sometimes drive half an hour to Columbus, GA, or Montgomery, AL, to see what those cities have going on.

Let's be real, though; I also might be in my dorm playing "Who can drink the most cups of Toomer's lemonade." Yes, this game gives me major stomach ulcers, but it's totally worth it.

Favorite Hangouts:

  • The Overall Company may make the greatest popsicles on the planet. Ask for a Cookies and Cream one dipped in chocolate and sprinkles. You won't be sorry (unless you're lactose intolerant, in which case you'll be very sorry).

  • Consider yourself warned: Cheeburger Cheeburger has a killer milkshake/burger combination, and people get addicted.

  • The waterfall at Chewacla State Park isn't too shabby. It makes a really good Instagram picture, no filter needed.

  • Dancing the night away is always fun, and as everyone around here knows, Sky Bar is a great place to do so.

Quirks:

  • Once upon a time, I was an all-boy's school. In fact, I was originally called the East Alabama Male College.

  • Parking can be a hassle. Transits help with that, and so do parking passes. Still, though—consider yourself warned.

  • I have the biggest jumbotron in the country.

Famous Alumni:

  • Octavia Spencer, famous actress and Golden Globe winner
  • Tim Cook, a.k.a. Steve Jobs 2.0
  • Jimmy Buffett, island crooner
  • Taylor Hicks, former American Idol champ
