Cabrillo College

About Me

Intro

"Breakthroughs happen here" is my motto. If you come to me not knowing what you want to pursue, I'll help scrub off your uncertainty to let your shiny self break through like the CaBRILLO pad I am. Get it? Like a Brillo pad? But don't call me that. It's KUH-BREE-YOH, yo.

I can expand your library of knowledge with my collection of talented, experienced, compassionate professors. And with my library. I've got smart people here who genuinely want to help you learn. I'm not like one of those giant research universities where the professors are buried in their own studies. Many of my teachers started their own educational journeys at a community college just like you will.

I'm a little bit of everything here: preppy, jock-y, and bookworm-y. I'm known for being both a hippie and a hipster. I spend a lot of my time studying in my quiet library (full of books, computers, printers, desks, and chairs free to use) or outside under one of my many trees. I love music and art as much as I love science and humanities. I enjoy biking through the bike-friendly roads of Aptos and playing with friends on the beach (which you can see from a few of my classrooms' windows, by the way).

Oh should I have mentioned that sooner? Yeah, you can learn with me right next to the beach.

Name

Seahawks

Hometown

My heart is in Aptos, California, but you'll also find parts of me in Watsonville and Scotts Valley.

Birthdate

1959

Body Type

I look to be on the smaller side, but that's because I'm so spread out. In reality, I'm a pretty sizable guy. I recently reached a record enrollment of over 17,000 students. They're super diverse in sociocultural backgrounds and educational goals. Most students who come here to learn are young adults working on general education or Associate's degrees for transfer; but you'll also find older adults here who are going back to school to advance or change their careers.

Current Living Situation

My students live all over Santa Cruz County. I don't have any dorms, so students often rent houses or multi-room apartments together in Aptos, Capitola, or Santa Cruz. Many students also live at home with their parents in Santa Cruz County. It's pretty normal at community colleges like me; students are trying to save up money for when they transfer. Some commute to my Aptos campus from Watsonville or Scotts Valley.

Relationship Status

Many Seahawks learn with me for a couple years and then metamorphose into Banana Slugs; in fact, I'm ranked number one in transfers to University of California at Santa Cruz. Seahawks also often become Otters (CSU Monterey Bay) and Spartans (CSU San Jose). There are no rivalries here, I think of those schools as my cool older siblings.

Politics

I'm more liberal than not, but you'll find people of all political affiliations here. I'm very inclusive and so are my students and teachers. We Seahawks welcome diversity and have a strong desire for social and environmental justice.

You should apply to me if...

you want to spend a little money for a lot of knowledge.
