California Polytechnic State University--Pomona

About Me

Intro

Ahh. There's nowhere quite like Southern California. Wait, scratch that—there's nowhere quite like Pomona. I'm close enough to Los Angeles to enjoy some big city entertainment but far enough away to escape the likes of Tom Cruise and Charlie Sheen. And the smog.

Yep, I'm the best of both worlds.

In addition to being able to outrun crazed celebs, I've got some serious skills in business, engineering, and agricultural studies. I'm all about experiential learning and I won't hesitate to jump headfirst into any challenge. I like my students to be the same. College should be all about discovering what you like and what you're good at. Throw comfort to the wind and submerge your (gloved) hands into some chemicals.

But hey, don't be intimidated. I couldn't work as hard as I do if I didn't know how to relax. There's nothing wrong with partying (my students have been known to throw a rager or two), but I also really love relaxing in the great outdoors. Luckily, I'm surrounded by that luscious green stuff. Hiking, climbing, snowboarding, hitting the beach, you name it. I've got it.

I've been called one of the most diverse universities in the nation and my interests are similarly diverse. Polytechnic does mean "skilled in many arts," after all. Whether my students are using digital modeling to discern a weakness in a new form of cancer, or merely analyzing soil samples to better grow pineapple bushes, they're about as polytechnic as they come.

Well, after I get through with them.

Name

Billy Bronco

Hometown

Pomona, California

Birthdate

1938

Body Type

I'm large and in charge. With a student body of about 21,000 students, it's hard to feel lonely around here. Don't get it twisted, though—I could always use more company.

Current Living Situation

Call me clingy, but my first-year students are usually required to live on campus. Come on, there are plenty of great options here. Always looked forward to dorm life? I've got six residence halls. There's no relationship quite like the one between people sharing a room.

But if you panic at the thought of seeing your roommate in their skivvies (first off, settle down), you can always go for my suites or the off-campus University Village. You'll get a little more personal space while still being nestled amongst a community of students.

Relationship Status

It's all love in the California State University system, but I'm especially close to Cal Poly SLO. Having a similar name will do that.

You should apply to me if...

you're ready to dive into a lab headfirst for some serious sciencing.
