Claremont McKenna College

About Me

Intro

I'm a tough nut to crack. With one of the lowest acceptance rates for a non-Ivy school in the country, I'm not going to let just anyone through my doors. But being selective pays, and the lucky few who do get in are in for the most awesome college experience ever.

Like your favorite tropical resort, I am all-inclusive. I work hard and play hard, offering my students a top-notch education, amazing faculty, and one of the most awesome, tight-knit social scenes you'll find in LA. Oh yeah, and being located in SoCal means I pretty much have a tropical climate. Who needs the Bahamas when you have Green Beach?

I'm also really friendly. I might be selective, but I know how to share. My campus is sandwiched between four other schools: Harvey Mudd, Scripps, Pitzer, and Pomona. Together we're known as the Claremont Colleges. There are plenty of opportunities to meet students at any of the other schools and even take classes on their campuses. Or not. I am pretty awesome by myself, after all.

I like to have my cake and eat it too. I strike the perfect balance of Animal House madness and Revenge of the Nerds smarts (especially when it comes to economics and government) and I never exclude anyone from a party—or a computer lab. If you're ready to take college by the horns and have a glorious four years underneath the endless LA sunshine, then I just might be the place for you.

Name

One mascot doesn't cut it for me—I have two. Since I'm part of the Claremont Colleges consortium, my athletic teams fly the flag of CMS: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. My athletes have the distinct honor of being Stags or Athenas—and in some cases, Stagthenas. What can I say? I really do like to have it all.

Hometown

Claremont, CA. The city of trees and PhDs.

Birthdate

1946

Body Type

I'm small and petite with the heart of a bodybuilder. I'm that short guy in the gym with muscles bulging out of my ears (and basically every other part of my body). I have a pretty small student body with just over 1000 students, but what I lack in size I make up for in brawn—both academic and social. And since I share a campus with Pitzer, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, and Scripps, I can feel as large or small as you want me to be.

Current Living Situation

All of my students live on campus, which is awesome. I have four quads: North Quad (also known as the Party Quad), Mid Quad, South Quad, and the Senior Apartments. Mid Quad and South Quad were recently renovated, and they could not be a cooler, sleeker, or better place to live in. North Quad and the Senior Apartments might be a bit shabbier, but they have an amazing social atmosphere. Plus, you get to live with your best friends—what's better than that?

Relationship Status

I'm part of the family of Claremont Colleges and have four siblings: Pomona, Scripps, Harvey Mudd, and Pitzer.

Like any sibling, I can get pretty annoyed having to share such close quarters with some of these other schools. My main cross-campus rivals are Pomona and Pitzer. Whew—those basketball games can get ugly.

Politics

I am proudly libertarian. I'm all about campaigning for social change, but I'm ultimately most concerned about the economic and governmental consequences of different political issues.

You should apply to me if...

you want to expand your mind and your bro tank collection.
