Mr. Jaggers is Pip’s guardian, Miss Havisham’s lawyer, and the best lawyer we’ve ever met. He is exactly like Billy Flynn in the movie Chicago, in that he knows the ins and outs of the law like nobody’s business, and he ALWAYS wins his cases. Judges and juries alike quiver in their boots when Jaggers takes the stage. He’s not a warm and fuzzy guy by any means, but he gives good advice and he looks beyond appearances. He’s one of the few characters in this novel who is really enamored of the truth. The REAL truth. He doesn’t care for appearances whatsoever. We should also mention that Mr. Jaggers is really clean and likes to wash his hands. That just seems important to us. It’s like he’s trying to wash away the grime, the corruption, and the horrors of those he works with everyday.
