About Me

Intro

When most people think of me, one thing typically comes to mind: football. And it's well deserved on my part—my Mustang footballers are stapes in the NAIA Championship series. That's no small accomplishment. Thing is, there's more to me than pigskin. I might be a small private school, but I'm very well rounded.

When my students think of me, a diverse array of awesomeness comes to mind. For one, I offer up an amazing array of slam poets, hypnotists, and plays that all students can attend for free. Pretty sweet, right?

Inside the classroom I treat my students to top-notch business and education courses. I set them up to succeed once they graduate. As for getting to class, I keep things pretty scenic. The walk up Dimmitt hill on a brisk October day is breathtaking, and my fountain regularly lights up with the golden glow of the Iowa sunset.

So yeah, I might be small, but I like to think I'm the total package anyway.

Hometown

Named after the Great Sioux Nation that originally settled the area, Sioux City is pronounced "Soo," and has a pretty incredible history. During Prohibition, Sioux City, Iowa, was known as Little Chicago because liquor saloons and gambling were as rampant as they were in the Windy City.

Sioux City has also been affectionately nicknamed Sewer City thanks to its days as a stockyard hub. We've cleaned up our act since Prohibition and the stockyard age, and the city is now home to the Sioux City Hard Rock Casino, the Veteran's Memorial Bridge that crosses the Missouri River, and the Tyson Events Center.

Birthdate

December 5, 1894

Body Type

Some might think of me as a little guy since I'm home to a little less than 3,000 students. Don't judge me by my size, though—even though I'm small, I still know how to have a good time, hooking students up with the total college experience. And my sixty-eight-acre campus gives students plenty of room to roam.

Current Living Situation

My students have many options when it comes to on-campus housing. Freshman options include the Plex, Roadman Hall, and the newly renovated Dimmitt Hall. All of them feature the typical dorm-room style housing. Think roommates, shared bathrooms, communal lounges.

The Waitt and Poppen apartments, Lags Hall, and the Garrettson Houses, however, all feature apartment style living for upperclassmen. That said, after a few years, most students typically move off campus and settle into one of the shabby, yet homey, off-campus houses.

I'm small but I offer lots of different options.

Relationship Status

I get along with Western Iowa Tech, which is Sioux City's local community college. But don't ever—and I mean ever—mention my cross-town rival. BC-who?

Religion

I'm affiliated with the United Methodist Church, but I welcome people of all religions. There aren't any required religion courses or church services. I like to think of myself as someone who believes in God but doesn't really try to force my own beliefs upon someone else. Come one, come all.

You should apply to me if...

you want to be surrounded by the most loving, carefree, community-minded Midwesterners and have a love for small-town sports—especially football.
