  1. The Diary of Anne Frank
Anne Frank's diary is a real, absolutely true version, no fiction about it. Unfortunately, it isn't quite as funny as Junior's, and has a way less happier ending, but if you're looking to explore epistles with your class, we highly recommend combining Alexie's book with this one.

  2. Speak
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian takes place during Junior's freshman year of high school. Speak also occurs during the protagonist's freshman year. Read about her difficulties in adjusting to high school, having a social life, and fitting in after terrible things happen to her. Though it's not quite written as a diary, it's definitely written from the point of view of the main character, so if you have kids who want to spend more time inside the heads of teens, send this book their way.
