Character Role Analysis

Amos Leemaster

Even though Gypsy adores her father, Amos Leemaster, he serves as the antagonist of the story because he's the source of pretty much all of her pain and anguish. He doesn't mean to hurt Gypsy or Love when he commits suicide, but his death ends up changing them both irrevocably. They both go through a lot of emotional turmoil as they struggle to accept what's happened, especially Gypsy, who found his body when she was only five and has been haunted by nightmares ever since.
