  • A flashback reminds us of when Jack and Ennis were young, hot cowboys in love, and times were good. It was almost twenty years ago, but it only feels like an hour ago…Time flies when you're watching a movie.
  • Back in the present, Ennis drives away.
  • Cassie spots Ennis in a diner by himself. She's with another man.
  • She approaches the table and asks Ennis where he's been.
  • She's been leaving him lots of notes, but he's never responded.
  • Ennis is his typical taciturn self, and Cassie leaves in tears.
  • Later, Ennis checks the mail, and he stops dead in the street.
  • His most recent postcard to Jack has been returned to sender, stamped DECEASED.
  • Ennis phones Jack's widow, Lureen.
  • Lureen tells Ennis that Jack was changing a tire, and it exploded.
