Amiel

You don't have to read far to get to the burning passion Amiel and Pearl have for one another. And we're not talking about literal flames in this case, either. Pearl wants to know more about Amiel the moment she lays eyes on him, and the two grow closer and closer throughout the novel. It's evident that he's the love interest because, well, Pearl is head-over-heels in love with him, but also because we don't get to know very much about him except for what Pearl tells us about him. He's stuck as an object of her affection more than a complex character.
