Simply put, Doctor Faustus isn't generally a play a class can just pick up and casually read, which can make it sort of a tough sell to a room full of teenagers. Twilight this is not.

Many high school students fear Shakespeare because the language is antiquated and, let’s be honest, pretty hard to understand a lot of the time. Marlowe’s writing is no different. Doctor Faustus is a higher-level play for a reason, and you might find that you need to spend significant time close reading and working on vocabulary with your class. You might also find it difficult to provide several supplementary or corollary texts that aren’t super academic or heady, so it pretty much stands on its own for a unit, like the proverbial cheese.
