Roger is Alice's idealized perfect love. Because of his role as Mr. Right, he almost serves as Alice's moral compass—for instance, after her first trip she is horrified about what he might think if he knew she was doing drugs. However, this isn't enough to stop her from doing it again, and again, and again… So moral compass Mr. Right is not.
Even though the closest she gets to dating Roger is being stood up and one magical kiss, she is convinced that he is the love of her life, and she should mourn their coupledom for all time… or at least until her next boyfriend pops up.
