- It's been one week since Dread died so everyone in the Site decides to have his funeral.
- They all gather and sing songs about how bad the government is for leaving them in this situation.
- Shorty lets us in on a secret: Everyone ends up fighting one another in the years to come. Sure, they all seem united at the funeral, but after a while, they join opposite gangs and shoot at each other. Yikes.
- Manman doesn't want Shorty to go, but eventually his pleads wear her down and they go together.
- She tells him that he's lucky the U.N. paid for his leg to get healed. He doesn't bother mentioning it would have been nicer for them not to shoot him in the first place.
- Shorty hobbles on his crutches to where everyone is chanting.
- Someone says that Dread is now a zombie or didn't really die, but Manman corrects them; she saw the guy die right in front of her.
- When people hear this, they want to touch her for good luck. They seem to think it's a good sign that she saw something so important.
- Manman and Shorty follow the crowd down to the water, where Dread's body is on a boat getting prepared.
- There's a big theatrical display for the event—two guys even kiss—and Shorty thinks it's a little weird, but Manman thinks is beautiful.
- Shorty knows the whole thing has been scripted, but the audience is eating it up.
- Eventually, someone lights Dread's boat on fire and sends it off into the ocean. Everyone chants and sings.
- Later, people swim out to the sea and get any pieces of Dread that didn't completely burn.
- One of those pieces is what Biggie had sprinkled on him, since bone dust is good luck. It dawns on Shorty that whatever Biggie had sprinkled on him might just be sand from the bottom of the ocean, though he doesn't mention anything to Biggie.
- Manman is certain Dread is gone for good, but Shorty isn't so sure.
- Everything comes back eventually, Shorty tells us.
- First, Toussaint came back as Dread, and then as Shorty. Then Shorty's sister came back. (That big cliffhanger is how the chapter ends.)
