Lestat Timeline & Summary

  • Lestat converts Louis into a vampire 1791 because he wants Louis's plantation, Pointe du Lac.
  • There Lestat and Louis live, with Lestat's elderly father, until Lestat's bloodlust finally gets them into too much trouble to fix.
  • When the slaves come to kill them, Lestat makes Louis kill his father and then burn Pointe du Lac to the ground.
  • Lestat and Louis retreat to New Orleans where, one day, Lestat finds a small girl whom Louis had fed on and almost killed.
  • Afraid that Louis will leave him, Lestat turns Claudia into a vampire, hoping that having a child will force him to stay. That almost sounds like a plot twist on daytime TV.
  • It works... until Claudia grows to hate Lestat so much that she kills him.
  • Somehow, Lestat survives, and returns to kill Claudia.
  • But Claudia and Louis burn down the apartment with Lestat inside.
  • Doesn't work. Years later, Lestat reappears at the Théâtre des Vampires.
  • Lestat convinces Santiago to kidnap Claudia and Madeleine and kill them.
  • Even more years later, Lestat resurfaces again in New Orleans. He was absent when Louis burned down the Théâtre des Vampires.
  • However, Lestat now finds himself in the same existential crisis Louis has almost exhausted: Are vampires evil? What's the meaning of life? Why do we do what we do?
  • Lestat's just a heck of a lot whinier about it.
