Morgan and Emily

Character Analysis

Honeymoon from Hell

These unfortunate lovers are two of the few human characters we get to know as more than food.

But not much more. Their journey is straight out of a black-and-white horror movie. On a honeymoon journey into the rural villages of Eastern Europe, they come across a weird ritual featuring villagers digging up graves. Morgan says, "Emily [...] she thought it fascinating" (2.106). It was Emily's fascination with this ritual that killed her. Emily is bitten by a vampire, and Morgan tells Louis he's afraid of what they'll do to her—namely that they'll drive a stake through her heart and chop off her head.

Morgan never realizes that he's been confiding in a vampire, because Louis is so different from the vampire that has bitten Emily. She was bitten by a Revenant, a decaying mindless killer of the Max Schreck variety. Louis manages to kill the Revenant that killed Emily, but not before he gets to Morgan first.

Those Transylvanian honeymoons never end well.
