Brian might be the boy of Julie's dreams. Stranded in the Canadian wilderness, he works to survive with the help of his hatchet. What do they have in common? They both have a father in the picture and they are both survivors. While Brian might be able to learn a few things from Julie, we think he does pretty well, being a New York City boy and all. Check it out and see for yourself. - Island of the Blue Dolphins
One of the first things Julie and Karana have in common is their authors have both earned a Newbery Medal. This story of survival of a Native American girl is similar in many ways to Julie of the Wolves, except you might not get quite as cold reading it. Both girls are brave heroines who overcome obstacles and survive on traditional knowledge. This novel would make a fantastic compare/contrast essay topic.
