Like many of the poems in A Shropshire Lad, "Loveliest of Trees" is written in a very plain, simple style. Some early readers actually thought it was a little too simple. It's true that there are no weird, strange words floating around, and the sentence structure is nice and neat. The only little point of confusion occurs in the second stanza, where the speaker starts going and on about how many "scores" are left in his life. But, with the help of a simple calculator, the rest should be a smooth ride the rest of the way.
