Gunther Wolff Timeline and Summary

  • Back in 1899, Wolff arrives in Nome, hoping to strike gold. When he finds a nugget, he takes it to the assayer, a.k.a. Einar a.k.a. Sig's dad.
  • Even though his find is only ten percent real, he leaves with something much more valuable: a deal with Einar to split his gold in exchange for his silence. Or, so he thinks.
  • Wolff gets word of Einar skipping town, so he murderers Sig's mom, Maria, to threaten the guy.
  • He meets up with Einar in hopes of getting his gold, but Einar is too quick for the thug—Einar drugs him and then tells him he's moving to Seattle, before actually going to Giron.
  • Wolff spends ten years searching for Einar and his family.
  • Finally, in 1910, Wolff catches up with Einar, only to find the guy dead. No worries, though—he'll just take his matters up with Einar's son, Sig.
  • When Wolff asks Sig and Anna where the gold is, he gets frustrated when they don't know, so he threatens them a bunch of times, but they still don't come up with any answers.
  • Just then, Sig has an idea. Maybe the gold—or a map to where it is—can be found in his dad's papers, out on the ice.
  • Wolff and Sig head out there, grab the papers and Bible, and come back to the house.
  • When the gold is nowhere to be found, Wolff figures he'll use Anna for more than just money—but before he gets a chance to rape her, Sig stops him and frees his sister.
  • The brother and sister pair run for their lives, with Wolff chasing after them.
  • Wolff shoots and misses—hitting his hand instead—and shortly after, he's arrested and taken to prison, where he dies in a fight with another inmate.
