Family Drama
Killer chess moves aside, "Rules of the Game" is really about a girl and her mother—and all the drama that grows from their relationship. Without such an overbearing mother, there'd be no story, and without such a talented daughter for Mom to latch onto, there'd also be no story. Sure there's drama in the chess world, but the real action takes place as Waverly tries to please her mom, and then gets fed up with trying to do so. And because of this, this short story is definitely a family drama.
