The Da Vinci Code Chapter 82 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Teabing asks Rémy to direct the limo towards Fleet Street—but Langdon still hasn't figured out why.
  • The vellum verse reads: "In London lies a knight a Pope interred. / His labor's fruit a Holy wrath incurred. / You seek the orb that ought to be on his tomb. / It speaks of Rosy flesh and seeded womb."
  • Teabing tries to break it down for Langdon and Sophie, but they're still pretty clueless. He gives up, and tells them that they're headed for the Temple Church, built by the Knights Templar themselves.
  • The Templar Church has ten tombs, and Teabing is hoping more will be revealed to them once they can see them in person. Maybe one will be conspicuously missing an orb?
  • When Teabing leans towards the front of the car to give Rémy directions, Langdon and Sophie are reminded of Fache, and they're thankful how much time Teabing's little stunt has bought them.
  • Sophie thanks Langdon for his involvement, knowing what it's probably costing him. He has helped her feel closer to her grandfather.
  • She asks Langdon what they should do with the Grail information, should they find it.
  • She assumes her grandfather wanted her to contact Langdon because of the views he presented in his manuscript.
  • Langdon claims to be neutral about whether or not to release the information the Grail holds. He present arguments for both sides: on the one hand, he's a historian, and he'd give anything for religious scholars to have more information about those times.
  • But on the other hand, the Bible's created a reality for millions of people who base their faith on the allegories and metaphors contained within—he'd never presume to destroy something that allows millions of people to cope with their everyday lives.
