The Ear, the Eye, the Arm Chapter 29 Summary

  • Ear, Eye, and Arm head over to Resthaven again.
  • Arm wants to make sure Myanda knows that Sekai is safe and well cared for.
  • The only problem? When they get to the gate, it's completely silent inside—no sound whatsoever can be heard.
  • It turns out the people in Resthaven have done this before. One time they were completely silent for fifteen years, and no one knew if anyone was even alive in there.
  • The detectives head to the subway in search of more clues.
  • There, they catch a glimpse of the She Elephant, who is on her way to Borrowdale.
  • They get out their guns and cause a stir, so she disappears before they can catch her.
  • Eye sees a little bag of something on the platform and wants to get it.
  • When they reach it, the detectives discover a bag of chicken poop. Ew.
  • Arm figures this must have come from Resthaven. Who else would have an ancient looking pouch full of chicken dung? Fair question, Arm.
  • That proves the kids were on the subway and went to Borrowdale (since that's where the trains from that platform travel).
  • Huh? Why would they go to Borrowdale? Most people are English there, and they don't know anybody.
  • When they get home, the Mellower is taking care of Sekai.
  • She begins crying when Arm comes in because he projects some of his thoughts into her—scary images of trains and chicken poop flood little Sekai's mind, and it's too much to handle.
  • Eye tells Arm that he has to learn a way to turn off his mind-reading powers when he's around Sekai. Otherwise, he's going to scare her too much.
  • Arm is bummed out, but he knows Eye is right. He hands Sekai back to the Mellower.
  • Before leaving, Arm notices that the Mellower looks stressed and has lost weight. Hmm… maybe he's feeling guilty about something?
