Character Analysis
Solyony is a captain in the army. He's kind of a perplexing character, always saying nasty things about eating babies and drinking cockroach juice. Yes, that kind of fella. The thing is, he's awkward and coarse, like a bull in a china shop, but he's also in love with Irina. So maybe the whole bull thing is him trying to steal attention away from the baron whenever they're with the sisters.
Of course, that isn't the best tactic to win the heart of a sophisticated lady. So when Irina meets his confession of love with disgust and immediately rejects him, a brutal streak comes out. He says he'll kill whoever she does marry, and when she gets engaged to Tuzenbach, he challenges the baron to a duel and kills him.
