Tiffin University

Hallmarks and Quirks

Things I'm Good At:

  • Soccer. My team consistently wins and I'm super proud of them. The majority of them also have sweet accents. It's not necessary that you have one to make the team...but it helps.

  • Football. It's pretty much the biggest sport on my campus...even if we're not always winning.

  • My Criminal Justice program is one of the best. Many of my professors are former or current law enforcers. I also like to send my CJ majors to Washington, D.C., for their internships.

  • I offer a wide variety of majors for on-campus students; however, almost all of my majors are also offered online in case you don't want to walk through the snow.

  • I solely focus on student success here at Tiffin University. If you find yourself struggling, I have Success Coaches who will meet with you to help you get back on track.

  • My Business program is top-notch and most of my professors are current business owners. Talk about hands-on experience.

My Top 5 Must-Haves:

  1. Green and Gold gear. You're going to look weird if you show up to a sporting event wearing something without a dragon on it.

  2. Ramen Noodles. For when it's too cold (or when you're too lazy) to make it to the cafeteria.

  3. Pride. We Dragons take our sports very seriously and if you do not have school pride, then be prepared to receive a lecture or two. #TUGetFiredUp

  4. A winter coat. If you're not playing a sport, then you're probably playing in the snow.

  5. Your car. Tiffin isn't huge so it isn't totally necessary to have a car...but getting out of town is nice once in a while.

Why You Might Have Heard of Me:

  • I was ranked in the top 10 for the best small town colleges list in 2016

  • I'm widely known for my international students and have nearly 300 students representing over 30 different countries.

  • My Diane Kidd Art Gallery is regionally known for its visual art displays.

On a regular Saturday night, you can find me...

It depends what kind of mood I'm in. If I'm up for relaxing and enjoying a more artsy activity, there's nearly always an art gallery or concert going on. The Diane Kidd Art Gallery usually offers various shows throughout the month.

My musically-talented students love to put on concerts for their peers as well. If I'm in the mood to get my party on, there are usually house parties to attend and plenty of bars within walking distance of campus.

Favorite Hangouts:

  • Are you into sports? Then the Heminger Center is the place for you. You can run around our state of the art track or play in intramural sports tournaments with your friends.

  • Are you more of a study animal? No worries. I got you covered. My new Murphy Center provides you access to computers and free printing. That's right. Print as much as you want. I also offer free tutoring services for every course offered.

  • Looking for a place to write in your journal and have a decent cup of coffee? Look no further than the Dragon Brew located in Franks Hall. I've got all the Starbucks brews you could ever want.

Quirks:

  • I have my own record label through the Music Industry Program.

  • The Campus Activities Board loves to bring in exotic animals (snakes, monkeys, etc.) for my annual Springfest.

  • A student tradition, known as Campus Crawl, takes place the Saturday before finals every spring semester. It's when everyone throws down and participates in a giant party. No one really knows how this tradition came about, but count your lucky stars that it did.

Famous Alumni:

  • Chris Ivory. NFL running back for the New York Jets and a proud Tiffin University alumnus

  • Nate Washington. A member of the Pittsburgh Steelers Super bowl teams in 2005 and 2008

  • Sandra Williams. State Representative for the 11th district of Ohio

  • Rex Damschroder. Member of Ohio House of Representatives

  • Gary R. Heminger. CEO and President of Marathon Petroleum
