Joseph Priestley isolated oxygen on this day in 1774. He first discovered it three years earlier, when he realized that sticking mint in a jar with a passed out mouse would revive the little fella. Sadly, he is no relation to Jason Priestley, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star who rediscovered the sideburn in 1990.
