Prohibition ended on this day in 1933, solidifying the 21st Amendment, which returned control of liquor laws to the individual states. Here's the thing, though: it was never actually illegal to drink during Prohibition. It was just illegal to make, sell, or ship booze for consumption. In fact, all three of those things remained true in Mississippi until 1966; the state clung to its Prohibition laws for another three decades after the rest of the country abandoned theirs.
