It was the American theater of the Seven Years' War, which involved most of the big guns in Europe, and in 1755 it birthed one of the most American songs of all time. No, not Mötley Crüe's "Kickstart My Heart." We're talking about "Yankee Doodle Dandy." Its goofy lyrics were allegedly written by a British surgeon who wanted to mock the governor of Connecticut's son and his troops. Calling a feather macaroni? Ouch. That's cold.
