It’s an important reading strategy that helps you become a better reader. [Coop pointing at a blackboard]

But…why is visualizing so important? [Guy holding on to books with a winners medal]

What’s in it for us?

Well, when we visualize, we’re taking the words we’re hearing or reading and creating

a mental picture in our head.

Doing that helps us understand the story on a deeper level… [Clown in front of a house]

…but it also reinforces and helps us remember what’s happening in the story. [Dino pointing at a blackboard]

Here are some questions we can ask ourselves while we’re reading:

“Have I seen a place like this before in my life?

“If I wanted to make a movie out of this book, who would I choose to be the main characters?”

“Where would I want to film this story?”

Not only are we visualizing while we read, we are also using our mental pictures to make

Visualizing is important when reading any book…

…but especially important when we’re reading longer chapter books that have few or no pictures… [Flicking pages through a book]
