Here’s your shmoop du jour, brought to you by Starbucks.

00:05

But don’t worry about being awake all night —this problem is totally decaffeinated.

00:10

This is the nutritional information for four different bakery items at Starbucks.

00:15

Which two items have the highest protein to fat ratio?

00:20

And here are the potential answers…

00:24

So we are trying to find the ratios between protein and fat, and choose the two items have the highest value.

00:34

Remember that ratio is just another way of saying proportion…or division.

00:39

The protein to fat ratio is just the amount of protein divided by fat.

00:44

We can easily find this for all of the food items.

00:47

The blueberry scone has 7 grams of protein and 22 grams of fat…

00:51

so 7 over 22 is our protein to fat ratio for those awesome blueberry scones.

00:56

The croissant is 5 over 18... chocolate chunk is 4 over 17...

01:01

and chocolate croissant is 5 over 17.

01:05

We probably can’t tell just by looking at these fractions which two of the four have the greatest ratios…

01:10

…but we can convert them into decimals so it’s easier to tell.

01:14

So and we're converting...converting...

01:17

Ah, there we go. Clearly, the blueberry scone and chocolate croissant have the greatest

01:20

protein to fat ratio, with .318 and .294 respectively.

01:25

Our answer's (D).
