Odds of Getting In
Do you know a guy? Maybe you know a guy who knows a guy? If you’re lucky enough to have any sort of connection, maybe you’ll get a chance to start at the bottom. But getting your foot in the door is not going to be easy. Not one bit.
There are only a handful of production designers working in movies and they’re not going to step aside for the likes of you or anyone else.
They’ll have to retire eventually, so there’s always that. But in the meantime, keep yourself ready by working as much as you can and making as many friends as you can in the industry. It also helps to be friendly and affable. After all, nobody likes to work with someone who’s a pill.
