Glory

This is a tricky one, as real estate development can sometimes be a bit controversial. Sure, you're likely to feel great about your job if you work in a more philanthropic capacity—maybe you find parcels of land to be developed into affordable housing without creating too much of an environmental impact.

To put it bluntly, though, that's not what's going to make you rich. In this line of work, chasing a dollar sign is the easiest thing to do, but choosing how to chase those dollars is actually quite difficult.

That's not to say that real estate development only exists in those two clearly defined modes. You can still take a great deal of pride in your work when a deal you made results in the construction of an architecturally astounding building, or a family's first home, or a new neighborhood market. It's up to you to find the line between your monetary aspirations and your morals on these issues.
