Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
It's going to be difficult for students to progress unless they first get a handle on this standard. Being able to understand speech and all of its components is an integral part of being in a classroom, and this standard covers the necessary sense-making of those crazy sounds coming out of our mouths.
