Fame

Athletes participating in diving are definitely not in it for the fame and glory.

Well, maybe there is some glory.

Members of the college diving team aren't exactly highly decorated or easily recognized. Well, they do get medals and ribbons…they just don't get nearly as much attention as athletes participating in the other sports. Like football or men's basketball.

The best way to stand out would be to go through the elaborate process of qualifying for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, and hopefully come close to winning. None of that's easy, and even then, most college divers are seen as just another fish in the pond or some other cliché.

After college, divers can join the USA Diving Organization, which provides competition and a great sense of community…but next to no public attention (source). Womp womp.

For that, you have to be a world-class Olympian. Then, you'll get noticed about every four years. Yay?

This is definitely good news if you don't like pressure. No one's going to start a riot if you win or lose.
