Scholarship Qualifications

Turns out, it may be easier to set a world record than to earn a scholarship for gymnastics. No joke. For NCAA Division-I female gymnasts, twelve full-ride scholarships are available per team and six scholarships can be split into different amounts at Division II. Division-I male teams have six of those same allocation-type scholarships per team and Division-II has five. No Division-III athlete may receive an athletic scholarship for gymnastics (source).

Nobody's scholarship works like this. (Source)

The average women's team size in gymnastics is nineteen members while the average men's team size is twenty-one (source). With such large teams, and such few scholarships, especially for men, it's possible to be recruited and offered a spot on team without financial assistance. We tip our hats to these gymnasts for their pure dedication and love of the sport alone; may they enjoy years of loan payments afterwards.
