With only 19 NCAA teams in the USA total (source), there's not a lot of opportunities for NCAA glory. That's why NCAA players just play with non-NCAA ones—at least until they get their numbers up.

USA Rugby organizes national tournaments for men's Div-I, Div-IAA, Div-II, and sevens and women's Div-I, Div-II, and sevens (source). These tournaments, we're sad to say, go virtually unnoticed by the greater American public. And the lesser American public, too.

If what you really want is Jonah Lomu levels of fame, then you're in the wrong country. Rugby is so not America's sport. Just check out some of the tweets that a game between the All Blacks and the Eagles produced. Although this rugby game was (the largest in U.S. history), with 61,500 tickets sold, nobody really seemed to know what the heck was going on.
