Right off the bat, you're in trouble. While there's an entire month devoted to NCAA basketball and college football is a multi-million-dollar industry, triathlons are not as easy to find on TV. They exist, sure, but they're usually on those weird ESPN channels that show bizarre foreign sports.

Your best bet is to become one of those once-in-a-generation athletes that transcends the sport. That's easy, right?

Wrong.

It's going to take tremendous natural talent, then the kind of training that would turn Captain America into a weeping husk.

Because triathlon isn't a marquee sport, it needs someone to make it that way. Which means shattering records. It means becoming so good that sports fans in good conscience can't miss what you do. It'll probably also leave them wondering why you don't compete in another sport as well.
