Source: Newheart

Speaker: Larry

I'm Larry, this is my brother, Darryl, and this is my other brother, Darryl.

Context

This line is spoken by Larry, played by William Sanderson, in the TV show Newheart (1982-1990).

Newheart was all about the adventures of Bob Newheart who played the owner of a small inn in Vermont. But, it wouldn't be a sit-com without quirky neighbors.

Larry and his two brothers show up in the first season of the show and become regulars later on. They were notable for the funny way they always introduced themselves. Larry would say, "I'm Larry, this is my brother, Darryl, and this is my other brother, Darryl," though Darryl and Darryl never said anything during this.

Later the three brothers would take over a café across from the inn. And, in the final episode of the show, the two Darryl's finally broke their silence… and found some wives from Long Island. But—spoiler alert—it was only a dream.

Where you've heard it

Do you know two people with the same name? That's the perfect time to break this one out. "Hi, I'm Veronica, this is my friend, Heather, and this is my other friend, Heather."

Additional Notable References:

  • There are characters named Larry, Darryl, and Darryl in the video game Baldur's Gate.
  • Larry, Darryl, and Darryl also appeared on an episode of Coach. They really got around.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Maybe if they were named Windsor or Dillinger this would be pretentious, but their names are very salt of the earth, even if they are unoriginal.
